The Mirkwood Elf Army is a new hobbit set that will soon be available on retail. Based on the new movie, the Desolation of Smaug the set will bring exactly four hundred and forty two pieces, featuring seven (!!) great mini-figures (Warg, three Mirwood Elf, a couple of Gundabad Orcs and Thranduli) and an interesting fortress filled with some nice interesting details.
The fortress, which I must say, didn’t impress me too much, is not very tall but gladly can be split on several elements or even be attached to a second one (which preferentially has to be equal…) increasing a lot all the playability and the fun that this set might have.
With multiple color bricks and some nice sharp elements, Continue reading
The Dol Guldur Ambush is a new hobbit set based on the second movie, The Desolation of Smaug. With around two hundred pieces, this set brings three nice mini-figures (Beorn and two Gundabad Orcs), a small mobile catapult and some interesting ruins filled with a couple of interesting traps.
The Ruins are built mostly with grey pieces mixed with a few light brown sharp spears and a dark red tree at the front. At the front, there are sharp shapes and little bricks everywhere which is pretty nice not only in terms of design but also if we consider to join it to the bigger Dol Guldur Battle (79011). Yes, there is a possibility of combining these two sets transforming them into a bigger fortress.
At the back, the action begins. Near the central entrance, Continue reading
Yesterday on Eurobrick forum a few details were posted about the new wave of hobbit sets based on the Desolation of Smaug. A couple of months ago, the Lake Town Chase (79013) was unveiled at San Diego Comic Con but from then until now, there were no kind of additional information about the others.
Eurobrick user Kris Kelvin mentions a few details seen in a few blurry pictures and the expectation looks pretty high, according to what I’ve seen in forums and reference sites, not only because that the Lake Town chase was absolutely teasing but also because there is curiosity as it concerns to the Mirkwood Elf Army sets.According to rumors, The Lego 79011 – Dol Guldur Ambush will be the smallest
A possible set list for the 2013 Hobbit wave of sets has been surfing in the internet is the last hours. It contains four sets of different sizes including the one that was recently revealed in the 2013 San Diego Comic Con, the Lake Town Chase (Lego 79013) a fifty dollars set with around three hundred and fifty pieces.
The list stars with a twenty dollars set, – the Dol Guldur Ambush and for now ends with the Dol Guldur Battle which will retail around seventy bucks. These two values, as well as the available set range, might indicate that the edges are not complete, in my opinion there is still missing a ten dollars set as an entry and on the opposite edge, a bigger set of hundred dollars or even a bit more (it is not very difficult, after all this is definitely one of the most expensive themes).
Have a look at the possible sets:

As you probably know, Lego has presented, last days, in the San Diego Comic Con, two exclusive models, which were micro scaled versions of two regular sets: The Hobbit Bag end and the JEK -14 Mini Stealth Starfighter. The global opinion is quite pleasant with the exception of the price, which being usual in the SDCC is definitely prohibitive compared with the regular sets.
If you’re curious about them, you have now the opportunity of building them or on the other hand, simply have a detailed look at some of their nice details. The instructions were already available on some Flickr Lego fans (Thank you Allen and timhook22 for the original pictures!) but now you can also download them in PDF....Continue Reading...
